Singing is an integral part of the Haitian culture and the tradition that is Haitian Vodou. The songs can express emotions, tell stories, give praises, and invoke the spirits. This marks the first in a series of classes dedicated not only to teaching these sacred songs, but also to illuminating their meanings and the contexts in which they are traditionally performed.
Instructor Janbe Male is a world-renowned hougan asogwe, a high priest of Haitian Vodou. He has dedicated his life to preserving the traditions of Haitian Vodou and teaching them in a way that maintains their authenticity. His passion for Vodou resonates powerfully as he brings these songs to life with his voice.
In these classes, Janbe Male will teach song lyrics, melodies, their meanings, and the contexts in which they are traditionally sung—helping to deepen understanding of this beautiful tradition known as Haitian Vodou.
El canto es una parte integral de la cultura haitiana y de la tradición que es el Vodou haitiano. Los cantos pueden expresar emociones, contar historias, rendir alabanzas e invocar a los espíritus. Este marca el inicio de una serie de clases dedicadas no solo a enseñar estos cantos sagrados, sino también a iluminar sus significados y los contextos en los que tradicionalmente se interpretan.
El instructor Janbe Male es un hougan asogwe de renombre mundial, un sumo sacerdote del Vodou haitiano. Ha dedicado su vida a preservar las tradiciones del Vodou haitiano y a enseñarlas de una manera que mantiene su autenticidad. Su pasión por el Vodou resuena con fuerza cuando da vida a estos cantos con su voz.
